Strategies for Greening the Operating Room
This pre-conference session will examine best-in-class strategies for reducing the environmental impact of the operating room (OR), along with potential cost-savings and worker safety improvements. The OR has one of the largest environmental footprints of any department across the hospital—generating huge amounts of medical waste, using large volumes of expensive (and often disposable) equipment and materials and requiring energy-intensive technologies that can be improved upon.
Get your questions answered and learn how your hospital can take a leadership role by piloting and implementing these cutting edge technologies and management strategies at your facility.

Healthcare Clean Energy Exchange Helps Hospitals Buy Clean Energy, Reduce Costs and Counteract Climate Change
In recent months, three U.S. hospitals signed energy contracts that will save more than $1.7 million in energy costs and provide them with up to ten percent clean energy. The green energy will avoid 11,829 metric tons of CO2 being released to our atmosphere, which is equivalent to taking 2,052 cars off the road or not burning 56 railcars’ worth of coal. These hospitals are among the first participants in Practice Greenhealth’s Clean Energy Solutions program, established to help the U.S. healthcare sector switch to cleaner, renewable energy sources.
