Location: University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio
Our training session will begin on Tuesday, January 27 with breakfast and registration at 7:00 a.m. followed by a welcoming presentation at 8:00 a.m. The first day ends with a group exercise followed by dinner in downtown San Antonio. The second day will include a tour of selected facilities at UTHCSA and conclude at 4:30 p.m. All meals are included in your registration fee.

Christina Vernon Ayers, AIA, LEED, AP, is the inaugural Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Office for a Healthy Environment, which was established in 2007. She is a registered architect with more than 10 years experience, most of which focused exclusively in healthcare planning and construction. She oversees the sustainability program across the Cleveland Clinic Health System which has more than 37,000 employees and over 22 million SF in its portfolio. In support of healthy environments for healthy communities, her efforts surround healthy building, healthy operations, and better buying while finding champions and innovators within CCHS and its communities.

For eleven years, Cecilia DeLoach Lynn has been working with hospitals and health systems across the country to develop customized sustainability programs that emphasize responsible purchasing practices, green building design and construction and a reduction in both the volume and toxicity of hospital waste—including programs to minimize regulated medical waste, reduce hazardous waste and maximize recycling. Cecilia coordinates the Sustainable Operations Workgroup for the Global Health and Safety Initiative, and recently co-chaired the revision of the Green Guide for Healthcare’s Operations Section where she spearheaded the Environmental Services and Chemical Management subcommittees. In addition to a BS in environmental science, she is a certified health care environmental manager and holds an MBA with a focus in healthcare administration and corporate social responsibility from George Washington University.

Michael Geller is the Sustainability Coordinator for Providence Health and Service, Portland Service Area. This area contains 3 hospitals and multiple satellites. Michael is responsible for waste reduction, education in many departments, and reducing their environmental footprint. Areas include managing solid waste, regulated medical waste, universal waste, and working with Materials Management on their environmental preferred purchasing policy. Michael is co-chair of four Green Teams and the Co-chair of the PSA Sustainability Council. He manages the vocational staff at who sort commingled recycling and works with vendors to sell the sorted material.
